Avant-garde Pioneer -- The Analysis of Maison Margiela The Menswear Designer Brand

Maison Margiela, formerly Maison Martin Margiela, is a French luxury fashion house headquartered in Paris and founded in 1988 by Belgian designer Martin Margiela. The house produces both haute couture-inspired artisanal collections and ready-to-wear collections, with the former influencing the designs of the latter. Product lines include womenswear, menswear, fine jewelry, footwear, objects, fragrance, and home goods, among others. Known for deconstructive and avant-garde designs with unconventional materials, Maison Margiela has traditionally held live shows in unusual settings, for example empty metro stations and street corners. Models' faces are often obscured by fabric or long hair to direct attention to the clothes and design. With Maison Martin Margiela going public in 2002, Margiela resigned as creative designer in 2009 and John Galliano was appointed to the role in 2014.

John Galliano has recently unveiled his Maison Margiela Resort Spring/Summer 2022 collection. This season, Galliano re-invents the slouchy silhouette with an expansive range of outerwear. At a glance, the collection is filled with an overwhelming number of coats, right for any occasion. Whether it is for formalwear or the countryside rainy weather, the pieces excite the tactile and visual senses with their soft yet structured silhouettes. Galliano’s effortlessly chic aesthetic is prominent throughout the spring clothes, or as the house prefers to call it the Avant-Premiere line.

Wanna a Water Tango? -- The Catwalks Analysis of Maison Margiela Womenswear

With a theme of Tango, this season Maison Margiela explores the interdependent relationship between people. John Galliano joins hands with photographer Nick Knight to launch a short video, S.W.A.L.K. II, which artistically presents Maison Margiela S/S 2021 Co-Ed series. It tells a South American wedding tragedy, and everyone including the bride and groom wears Maison Margiela's signature veil. From the brand's history, we know that wearing the veil is designed to get people to focus more on the clothes themselves, rather than the models. Before shooting, models were trained intensively for weeks at local dance camps. Under the moonlight in Tuscany, models dance gracefully over puddles and get captured by still photography, thus presenting the ready-to-wear collection of Maison Margiela.
