The 39th session of Spinexpo took place in Hangzhou during August 28 to 30. Themed ‘Turbulences’, the exhibition displayed four different directions: Flying Higher, Cosmic Turbulence, Emotional Turbulence and Terrestrial Turbulence. The use of multiple fancy yarns presents the environment of earth and outer space. The colorful living situations are displayed through real fabrics to stimulate the awareness of environmental protection. This exhibition recommends fuzzy yarns, such as chenille, centipede yarn, faux sable, loop yarn and teddy bear yarn. Scientific metallic gloss focuses on metallic yarns and sequined yarns. Variegated knot yarns pursue tactile layers.

‘Empowerment’ is the third trend story of S/S 2023 Shanghai SPINEXPO. Epidemic has changed people’s behaviour. Consumers are now focusing on their mental health and inner needs. The harmonious balance between people and the natural environment pursues spiritual peacefulness. The palette of Empowerment is more tranquil and soothing. Yarns and stitching skills better accent the textures.

The world is changing, and the second exhibition of Playtime Shanghai will present an image of the children's universe, that takes on today's social challenges in order to protect the freedom to be openly and courageously unique. It is the incarnation of a world of solidarity in its diversity, of a "wild" state of childhood where creativity and spontaneity, individualism and simple pleasures of the senses are combined. It is a joyful disorder, in which each one finds a place, the happy wasteland of a future whose complexity is not put in doubt, but where the collective, the freedom and the sensuality celebrate new utopias.

Except for the four macro themes and key yarns, S/S 2022 SpinExpo Shanghai also presents new knitwear designs brought by exhibitors. This report will analyse the design points of knitwear from the aspects of key silhouette, yarn, stitching and pattern.

S/S 2022 SpinExpo Shanghai is exhibited in Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center. And this yarn exhibition is divided into four themes, The Dream Abound, The Love Within, The Escape Away and The Move Forward. The development of natural fiber, functional fiber and creative fiber upgrades the yarn. Comfort, security and eco-friendly sustainable development are still the key points of yarn and knit cloth. The application of recyclable materials further pushes forward the process of sustainable development. Besides, the exhibition also sets a trend zone Mid-Point, which releases the predicted themes of A/W 22/23.

In order to satisfy the market requirement of eco-friendly and healthy products, S/S 2022 SpinExpo Shanghai mainly recommends two parts, Natural Fibers and Creative Fibers. Natural Fibers include cashmere, wool, linen, cotton, paper and silk, which underline the harmony between people and nature and pursuit natural and comfortable effects. Creative Fibers include Tencel, organic fiber, recycled fiber, anti-bacterial fiber, functional fiber and EcoVero. These fibers can improve the dressing property and meet more consumption needs because of their anti-bacterial, bacteriostasis, anti-odor, anti-UV, anti-fouling, fast dry and easy-care properties.

Different from the past offline exhibition form, the 88th Pitti Filati is presented on the digital platform Pitti Connect to display the S/S 2022 collection because of the epidemic. Influenced by the transition of consumers' life habit and consumption concept, the development of yarn and knit cloth pays more attention to the safety, comfort and versatility. Environmental protection and sustainable development concepts keep influencing the yarn development. Anti-bacterial and anti-microbial yarn needs creation and extension. Natural fibers like cotton and linen are the key to summer, and the application of fancy yarn is also important.

The 35th secession A/W SPINEXPO Shanghai is held as scheduled. Although the flow of visitors is limited, the atmosphere is still animated. This report makes a detailed analysis on diversified stitches. Cables get innovated, and yarns are not restricted to the panel. Geometric shapes remain classic and display more stitches. The mottled eroded effect displays time traces. Regular and orderly stitches form granular textures. Panels are stacked to add depth. 3D textures appear on placements, lively and free.

The A/W 2021/22 Pitti Filati is presented fully digitally for the first time. Local lockdowns result in a complete shutdown for many mills, delaying the production of new collections. Despite this, A/W 21/22 developments are thoughtful, reactive and innovative. Based on reliable and comfortable quality, healthy and comfy yarns remain key, seen on odour-controlling treatments, Total Easy Care Merino and water-resistant coatings. Although some spinners are absent, many participate in the new online format to share the yarn feast.

Affected by the COVID-19, the suspended SPINEXPO is held as scheduled. Safe, comfortable and anti-bacterial products prevail, including anti-odour treatment and washable wool. Sustainable, traceable and responsible yarns are key, which drives manufacturers to pay more attention to product indicators. Sustainable yarns are widely applied, and sporty functional yarns also gain much attention. A/W 20/21 continues delicacy, innovation and creativity, and aims to employ the best yarns for the most creative, fashionable and comfortable clothes.
