Taking to Milan, the Caten duo Dean and Dan have showcased DSQUARED2’s vibrant Spring/Summer 2023 Menswear collection. Paying homage to the Bob Marley Foundation, the collection features everything from 70s-inspired outerwear to the symbolic use of colours in the Jamaican flag (yellow, black and green). In an additional collaboration with Honda motorcycles, Dsquared2 combine their Marley inspiration with two starkly contrasting personas; the relaxed surfer and the rambunctious biker. And while a junction between the musical legend and the motorcycle company may seem a little odd at first, there’s actually a deep-rooted vein that joins the two together in perfect harmony – the designers aimed to symbolise both the vibe and rebellion of Marley’s time, surf culture, and 1970s Jamaica.

The Catens’ penchant for clubbing and partying is well known—in pre-Covid days dancing all night was surely among their favorite pastimes. Now they’re more focused on healthy activities, like strenuous exercise and running along the beach of their Cyprus home. And obviously they’re into surfing, the coolest sport there is, which the Catens see tinged with undertones of danger. They designed their resort collection to provide Dsquared2 customers with plenty of options, seamlessly crossing the line between wild nights spent under disco balls and dawns riding the waves. They called the lineup Dark Goth Surfers.

Stepping into the Dsquared2 venue felt like déjà vu of going through the airport: Guests duly queued to display their vaccine certificates along with their tickets before moving into a larger area where piled suitcases replaced seats here and there. Meeting Dean and Dan Caten backstage, one indeed could have the feeling they just returned from a relaxing trip: revitalized, energized and ready to tackle the new year with fresh ideas and resolutions.
