For the first time, Nicolas Ghesquière has invited leading French contemporary artist Philippe Parreno and production designer James Chinlund to conceptualize the event’s spectacular set design. With metal grills, mirrors, and a myriad of lightbulbs that evoke a fairground attraction, the set is centered upon a vividly red “monster flower” with golden stamen that rise up dramatically into the Parisian sky.

Twinsburg -- The Runway Analysis of GUCCI
Alessandro Michele presented his latest collection, “Twinsburg,” for Gucci Spring/Summer 2023, and it primarily focuses on reflection and how that intertwines with individual self-expression despite appearing the same. The show leads with twin models matching across the runway, each a reflection of the other. The sophisticated concept was inspired by Michele’s upbringing. In true Michele fashion, the collection’s 68 looks didn’t need doubles to make an impact. He worked his way through strict tailoring, souped-up activewear, Hollywood Boulevard glitz, embroidered chinoiserie, red carpet glam, and country quilting, among other motifs.

Forever, Always, Per Sempre -- The Womenswear Runway Analysis of MSGM
Before the polls to elect a new government in Italy, Massimo Giorgetti expressed his opinions about marriage, freedom, love and unity via the Spring/Summer 2023 collection The show was inspired by films like Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill and François Truffaut’s The Bride Wore Black, both apparently romantic comedies that turned into disquieting action movies.

Touch of Crude -- The Womenswear Runway Analysis of PRADA
The Prada Fondazione was covered in black craft paper for today’s show. Cut into the set walls were windows behind which short videos by the director Nicolas Winding Refn of Drive fame played. “There is a sense of the life of women,” Miuccia Prada said in a prepared statement. “Life and humanity crafts the clothes—not superficial embellishment, but traces of living, leaving marks. The Blue Horizon -- The Womenswear Runway Analysis of Max Mara
Max Mara Spring/Summer 2023 collection continued the minimalist mindset and fluid tailoring to display the timeless Italian fashion and a cozy vacay style. The sunny blue coastline exuded the atmosphere of Riviera style. It focused on Renée Perle, a lover and much-snapped subject of early alpha-photographer Jacques-Henri Lartigue. Then there was Eileen Gray, who designed her own feminocratic ideal of the modernist house, the Villa E-1027 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, in 1929.

In the middle of Soho, on the most packed London Saturday night of all, we plunged into the Vegas video gambling arcade to have our minds bent by Jonathan Anderson. BIOMIMICRY -- The Runway Analysis of Dion Lee
The genderless BIOMIMICRY collection saw men and women embrace extreme cut-outs, nipple-revealing sheer and chainmail handbags. Even the most miniature of mini skirts weren’t just reserved for the toned legs of Dion Lee ladies. Some designs resembled skeletons with ribcage-like fabrications and architectural silhouettes, while others looked ready to battle bad guys … and big waves, such as the black neoprene wetsuit. Perhaps, a homage to the Sydney-native’s former sun and surf lifestyle.

Time -- The Runway Analysis of Peter Do
As a comment on the pace and rush of fashion, Do titled his collection Time. “I was thinking about how we always seem to be running out of time in this industry. As a designer and brand, we are always living in the future and never in the present. This collection marks a period where, for the first time in a while, I feel present; where I’ve slowed down to savour those important moments in life.” His reflections manifested in what he called the “fundamentals” of his brand: The deconstruction of garments, a focus on the convertible wardrobe and transparency. Do played with androgynous codes in the exaggerated fits and volumes of suits, magnified classic shirts and exploded them into buoyant coats.

The Possibility Of An Island -- The Menswear Runway Analysis of MSGM
"MSGM boys are good natured boys, with not a soupçon of dark side. Or at least, they keep it well hidden under the cheerful, über-positive designs concocted by Massimo Giorgetti, an equally sunny-side-up kind of guy. " Designer said that reading Michel Houellebecq’s dystopian and rather cynical novel The Possibility Of An Island made him think about the tension between the natural and the virtual, humanity and technology. To amplify his message, the location he choose for the show was a brand new glass and cement building located in an up-and-coming industrial area of Milan.
