S/S 2023 Milan Fashion Week(June 17th to 21th) included 28 offline runway shows, 24 still-life exhibitions, 5 digital releases and 21 brand culture events. It was the best Milan Fashion Week after the global pandemic. Moschino’s menswear collection returned to Milan; Versace released its menswear on catwalks; Gucci displayed the still-life exhibition; J.W. Anderson joined in Milan for the first time.
Unveiled during Milan Fashion Week Men’s, Gucci presented a collaboration built on the friendship between Gucci’s Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, and the British singer-songwriter and actor, Harry Styles. Dubbed the “HA HA HA Collection,” the special range serves as an “inventive two-person journey.” The Italian luxury fashion house offers a foreword that reads, “Friendship, complicity, a unification of distinct creativities that meet along a shared border, exchanges, and contaminations of collective ideas. And the construction of the absolute pragmatism of bridges that form to connect different perspectives.”
The Spring/Summer 2023 Menswear collection by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons is an expression of curated processes. The practice of design - of fashion - is one of decision-making, curation alongside creation. The tools of this collection are direct, recognizable, archetypal pieces – suits, overcoats, sweaters, shirts, denim, leather. Known garments are reinvented through context. There is always a complexity of thought behind apparently simple results, a process of refinement to uncover the fundamentals of dress.
